Constant VigilanceThe Muggle World

Trans folks have existed throughout time and space, so it stands to reason they exist in the wizarding world too. Our program will unpack the pros and cons of being gender variant at Hogwarts. What would happen if a trans or nonbinary person tried to go up the stairs in Gryffindor tower or touch a unicorn? How would magic change medical transitions? Are there any spells or potions to ease social dysphoria? We’ll use audience participation to start answering some of these unanswered questions ...

Questions of the Wizarding WorldExamine the Canon

In this session, panelists representing multiple ethnic backgrounds discuss the (mis)/representation of their communities within Harry Potter canon and imagine how culture would inform magic, and how magic would inform culture, in both wizarding and Muggle worlds. Through this discussion, we will cross-examine the White, European, pseudo-Christian Wizarding culture of Harry Potter to answer questions like: What would be our culture’s predominant attitude towards magic? Get ready to dig into this complex topic.

So what does Judaism look like at Hogwarts? How are various Jewish traditions and rituals impacted by magic? Join us as we delve deeper into the mysteries of Jewish wizarding life, debating the merits of everything from invisibility dreidls to the Kosher status of animals butchered via the killing curse. All levels of knowledge and ex...

Beyond the Books and FilmsFan Creation

Wizard rock is more than a music genre; anyone who has spent more than a few minutes at a show can tell you that. Over the years, a community has formed, and it’s become almost as much about the community as it is about the music. Songs have become rituals and anthems, concerts feel more like family reunions (except they’re the kind you actually want to go to), and most of us have filled our dressers with nothing but t-shirts made by the people whose music fuels our daily lives. Come chat wit...

The Muggle World

It's not hard to find a character in the Harry Potter universe who struggles with their identity and how it impacts their standing in the wizarding world. Often this identity is depicted through the lens of blood status, and it's rare that the characters discuss how the intersectionality between race and other identities shape people in the wizarding world. How does the intersectionality between race and other identities shape people in the fandom?
