J.K. Rowling was once asked, "If Snape didn't love Lily, would he still try to protect Harry?" to which she responded "No, he definitely wouldn't have done. He wouldn't have been remotely interested in this boy." But what if, without Severus Snape and his affections for Lily Potter, there wouldn't have been a Harry Potter to protect? What if he was the catalyst that caused The Prophecy to come to fruition at all? We'll have a discussion about the circumstances that led to Voldemort's initial downfall on Halloween 1981, the protection that Lily gave Harry (and Harry later bestowed upon his friends), and Voldemort's actions that night, with a focus on the part Snape played in them.
