The infamous 150-point Snitch catch and seemingly complicated rules have caused many readers over the years to dread any scenes involving Quidditch - or to skip them entirely. But not paying attention to literature’s most magical sport means missing out on one of the most important symbols in the series. In this presentation, we’ll talk about how Quidditch in each book mirrors the greater plot, how the sport provides foreshadowing and historical context while strengthening the chiastic structure in the series, the multi-layered metaphorical Quidditch game that is the entire seventh book, how the Triwizard Tournament is a Quidditch season, and even how the Snitch symbolizes Harry himself.
