In the late 1990s, increasing instances of young, disadvantaged women abandoning and endangering their newborns spurred the passage of Safe Haven laws. These laws provided the option to safely and legally abandon infants. By comparing rates of infanticide before and after the legislation’s passage, my research evaluates the laws’ impact.
