Much of the animal sheltering world has been focused on how to improve the lives of pets that end up in shelters. In this session, Dr. Haston will review a history of animal welfare, examining important trends in the industry, and then build a vision for the opportunities and challenges that we face in the future. This session will focus on the importance of the human animal bond and how many constructs and narratives of the past need to be revisited. We will also explore social capital and its importance in how we will view animal welfare in the future.
