Big Green Bookshop

Tim West and Simon Key opened the Big Green Bookshop in March 2008, after the big chain store where they worked in Wood Green closed, leaving the area with no dedicated bookshop. After much joy and much frustration and a huge amount of help and support from the local community the shop opened its doors to fanfares and cheers and a cake or two.

With over 35 years of book selling experience between us and over 47 cups of tea and coffee inside us, we’re trying to offer the kind of bookshop that we’d like to visit ourselves, a bookshop with a thoughtful range of titles, friendly knowledgeable staff and some cracking gems that surprise and excite us. We love our books and we’ll do our very best to make sure that when you leave you’ll look forward to coming back again.

Diverse Kids

"I became first inspired to look deeper into diversity when attending your convention 2 years ago and opened this bookstore last year so that I could help the next generation to be more inclusive through the use of picture books to normalise these experiences. I source and sell fun, lively and engaging picture books that relate to diversity in all its forms and common challenges children that might face. It is hoped parents or loved ones buying these books will be encouraged to open their children's minds and to support their children to understand the many people in the world around them. Categories we cover are same-gender relationships, transgender characters, disabled characters, people of colour, multiculturalism, gender expression, health, bullying, adoption, divorce, grief, abuse and how babies are made."

Scorch's Pyrography

I'm Scorch the Pyrographer, a craftswoman creating various sorts of one-off items with hand-burned designs. I mostly make custom-burned wooden & leather items, with an emphasis on the unusual and fantasy (lots of dragons and dice, anime and animals, cartoons and comics, pentacles and triquetras !) plus a few odds and ends of unusual jewellery with fantasy, anime, new-age and steampunk themes.

You can see some examples of what I do here :

I'm only a one-girl hobbyist, not a business, but I love to take stalls at cosplay, geeky, anime, alternative, medieval, pagan & steampunk events when I can, especially when they're as local to me as this!

Stickman Communications

Using stickman cartoons to create understanding of hidden disabilities and symptoms, and empower individuals, Hannah Ensor (the creator of Stickman Communications) has created a wealth of resources to help individuals gain the understanding and support they need from the people around them. These books, keyring cards, Status Squares, lanyards, badges, stickers and posters cover a huge range of conditions and symptoms - autism, anxiety, pain, fatigue, mental health issues, dyspraxia, diabetes, tourettes, hypermobility and much more.

For health reasons, we will only be at Nine Worlds on Saturday 5th, where we will have samples of our various products for people to try out - which are available from our online shop. The only product range we plan to sell from our stand are our new Status Squares - small, wearable, token units that let you effortlessly communicate how you are.
