Phil is a PhD student in the Department of Defence Studies at Kings College London. His work focuses mainly on British defence policy in the post '57 era with particular emphasis on post-war naval aviation, contemporary insurgency theory and the evolution of British Army doctrine from 1918 onwards. Other interests include science fiction, cats and relentlessly loud, depressing American guitar music from the 1990s, a subject he long been threatening to write a book on.
