Dr. Hwang is the Director of MAP/Centre for Urban Health Solutions, a group of more than 25 research scientists who are working to redefine health care to disrupt the cycle of poverty and create a healthier future for all. Dr. Hwang is a practicing physician at St. Michael’s Hospital and a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  He has done internationally-recognized research on deaths among people who are homeless and interventions to improve the health of people who lack stable housing. Dr. Hwang is one of the lead researchers for the At Home/Chez Soi study, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the Housing First approach (rent subsidies and intensive supports) to end chronic homelessness among individuals with mental illness.
