Flipinos are the fastest growing immigrant community in Canada. How have we maintained and re-shaped our cultural identities as we encounter immigration, colonialism, economic disparity and urbanization? Through live performance of Philippine folk dances, documentary film and lecture, I will use a multiplatform approach to make sense of how Filipinos continuously strive to be “at home in the world.” Along with a multi-ethnic group of 25 dancers and musicians, I’ll present my own exploration of a changing culture, based on my years of ethnographic and archival research in the Philippines and the GTA.
