Born 1966 and into a large family, Shane is one of 9 children and spent his childhood years in the western suburbs of Melbourne in West Footscray. Shane now resides with his own family in Wheelers Hill, in Melbourne’s south-east. Now in his 30th year as a Firefighter in the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Shane currently holds the rank of Station Officer. A rank he has held for five years. Part of the role of Station Officer is to perform the ‘day to day’ training and managerial roles at a fire station, as well as command the crew under his control at a fire or emergency incident as they occur. One of the achievements of which he is most proud is being a founding member of the Firefighter’s Charity Fund Melbourne, where he sits as Deputy Chair. Shane has strong community connections and was elected as a Councillor in the City of Monash in 2016 and is the current Mayor. His keen interest in promoting healthy and active lifestyle in the community and particularly girls and women in sport, aligns with his advocacy on the gender equality space.
