13. Beginner Craft. Fiona Lowe - Happy Talk

1:45 PM, Saturday 10 Aug 2019 (45 minutes)
Afternoon Tea   02:30 PM to 03:00 PM (30 minutes)
Grand Ballroom 1

Stilted, soggy or unrealistic dialogue that doesn’t suit the characters or propels the plot, slows a novel and risks the reader putting the book down. This workshop is aimed at beginner and intermediate writers and will explore the connection between characters and their dialogue.

By looking at the impact of gender, socio-economic factors, education, ethnicity, age and their characters’ beliefs, participants will learn strategies to create appropriate and interesting dialogue that propels their plot. Participants will have some time to write a short piece of dialogue and will leave the session with tools they can implement in their novel.
