Track:
Program Track: Money
What:
Breakout Session
When:
11:10 AM, Friday 16 Aug 2019 (1 hour)
Where:
Hilton Austin - Salon K
How:

There’s a new law in town, the Music Modernization Act, signed last year. After years of calls for music licensing reform by the music industry, the MMA ushers in significant changes to the Copyright Act. It creates a new entity, the Mechanical Licensing Collective, to “modernize” and administer the compulsory mechanical licensing process--the licenses to use recorded music--for interactive streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. These licenses will change how artists are paid. This session will provide an overview of the Mechanical Licensing Collective and other changes by the MMA to the copyright laws and music licensing landscape.
