Curtis is the regional science specialist for Guy Fenter (Western Arkansas) Educational Service cooperative.  As such, he provides professional development and classroom assistance to over 1,000 teachers in 22 school districts.  Dr. Varnell taught physical science, biology, and chemistry for more than twenty years at Paris High School, Paris, Arkansas before obtaining his doctorate in environmental dynamics at the University of Arkansas.  An author of seven books and numerous articles on science education, Curtis is the father of three sons, two of whom are teachers, and two step-children.  Curtis spends much of his time writing and presenting real world, hands-on lessons to teachers and students across the United States.
