Cyberpunk was a hugely popular sub-genre of science fiction, particularly in the 1980s when issues of technology, urbanisation, and changing culture were major concerns for society. With climate change presented a grave challenge for humanity’s future, and climate change-oriented fiction becoming increasing popular, are we about to see a similar explosion of works focused on the one specific area? What are the common elements that will mark climate fiction, and to what extent has the development of this sub-genre already occurred?
