With the expansion of television drama onto streaming video providers, it has become easier to adapt literary texts in a bespoke manner for smaller, more dedicated audience. Programs such as The Handmaid’s Tale, The Expanse, Altered Carbon, The Man in the High Castle, and others, have offered new and oftentimes challenging entertainment. What are the opportunities for these new dramas, what are the challenges, and which novels are sitting waiting with the best chance of becoming dramatic, innovative television?
