When and where’s the conference again?

TLC2018 is taking place on 23-24 March 2018 at Centrum Konferencyjne Zielna, Zielna 37, 00-108 Warsaw, Poland.

How do I get there?

It's not a hotel. Where can I find accommodation?

We have negotiated attractive prices with two hotels in the area. You can also choose from the offer of other hotels in Warsaw. More info here.

Is accommodation included in the conference ticket?

No. You have to book a room separately.

Who’s the organizer?

There are five of us (plus helpers) and you can read about us on the conference website. There are photos, too :)

What is the conference theme?

This year, it’s Translator Ex Machina. All possible interpretations are welcome :)

What and where’s the networking evening?

The networking evening is a party during which attendees can chat a bit more with their new connections, exchange business cards and let down their hair after a whole day of conferencing. \

Can you book a room for me?

We can assist you, but we do not organize accommodation for attendees for practical reasons. Therefore, we advise you to choose the hotel yourself.

Are conference workshops paid?

The workshops taking place on Friday and Saturday are free of charge. The SDL workshop on Thursday is free for TLC attendees, while Sameh Ragab's workshop on Sunday is paid 100 EUR.

Can I pay with cash?

We cannot accept cash payments. Please pay either via PayPal or wire transfer. If it is a problem, please e-mail us at

Will the speeches be recorded?

We will record some of them, but certainly not all. If there is any speech you’re interested in, please let us know at and we’ll see what we can do.

Is the venue adapted to wheelchair users?


Why are the prices different for PayPal and wire transfer users? I don’t want to pay more just because I use wire transfer!

The prices for wire transfer users include VAT, while the PayPal prices have VAT added at checkout. Therefore, ultimately, the prices are the same.

Why are wire transfer tickets marked as "Free"?

Due to technical restrictions, we cannot assign prices to tickets which will be paid via wire transfer possibly at a later date. However, the tickets are not free - you can find the price for the ticket in the PDF file you received via e-mail, above the order number, on light yellow background.

Are the prices going to stay the same during the whole registration?

The prices will go up as we get closer to the conference - Regular prices start on the 1st of January, and on the 18th of February - Late prices. Lunch, Networking evening and Supporter package prices will not change. You can see the table with the prices in the TLC Handbook.

Are there any group discounts / student discounts?

No, but you can benefit from Early Bird prices until 1 January 2018.

I forgot to buy lunch/networking evening ticket. / There’s a new workshop which interests me. / I’d like to buy the supporter’s package. What do I do now?

You can add tickets to your profile using the same registration form which you used to register for the conference. The new tickets will be added to your profile.

I can’t take part in the conference after all. What’s your refund policy?

If you withdraw by 31 January 2018, we will refund 90% of the conference fee; if you withdraw by 14 February 2018, we will refund 50% of the fee; if you withdraw by 1 March 2018, we will refund 20% of the fee. Later withdrawal will not be reimbursed.

What’s the thing with VAT again?

All TLC tickets are subject to 23% VAT – PayPal will add the tax at checkout, while prices for wire transfer already include VAT. In line with the current law, conference attendance is taxed according to local provisions of the country where the conference is taking place. Our conference is held in the same country (Poland) in which the invoice is issued, and the recipient of the service must physically come to the country to participate. This means that there is no EU “import of services”. Therefore, Polish VAT applies.

Will there be pictures taken during the conference?

Yes, our photographer Tomek Zarzycki will take care of that. Registration to the conference implies consent to having your picture taken and published on the conference website, Facebook page and possibly printed materials.

How can I get to Warsaw? How do I get to the Sound Garden?

The best option is to fly to the Chopin airport (very close to Sound Garden) or take a train/bus to Warszawa Centralna or Warsaw city center and then take a taxi. We advise you against flying to Modlin – while flights there might be cheaper, the airport is ca. 50 km from the city centre, which means time-consuming and costly transport.

Will there be maps of Warsaw available at the venue?

Yes. The Warasaw Convention Bureau will provide maps and Warsaw Top 10 brochures for TLC attendees. Check out their website:

Do you refund travel expenses?


What is the dress code for the conference?

We would describe it as casual to business casual – you can take a look at the pictures from the previous editions of TLC in our Facebook albums. There’s certainly no need to wear a tuxedo, or a tiara :)

What is the dress code for the networking evening?

Similarly, please consult our Facebook albums. It’s OK to wear similar clothes as you would for a night out with friends – just remember to have some comfortable shoes for dancing!

Do I have to print anything out?

Not at all. Just come to the conference and we will present you with your badge, as well as all the other printed materials.

Will the conference be held in English?

All the speeches and workshops will be presented in English, but the speakers might refer to other languages.

Do I have to sign up for speeches/workshops?

It is not obligatory, but if you can sign up, it will let us gauge interest and move a workshop or presentation to a different room if it’s unexpectedly popular. The before- and after-conference workshops (on Thursday and Friday) are available only upon registration - you can see more details by clicking on the workshop title in schedule.

How do I sign up for speeches and workshops? How can I take part in the SDL workshop?

In order to sign up for Friday and Saturday speeches (which is non-obligatory and non-binding) as well as the Thursday SDL workshop, you have to log into your profile. Click on the Log in button in the upper right corner of the website. If it's your first time logging in, click "I'm a new user" and enter your e-mail and your new password. You can use them to log in later. After logging in, go to the tab "Schedule". You can sign up for items by clicking the plus sign next to every item. To cancel the sign-up, click on the tick sign. The items you signed up for are in the "My schedule" tab. 

Please keep in mind that in the case of the SDL workshop, there is a limited number of places (20) and a waiting list. If you sign up, but cannot take part in the workshop, please cancel through the website or let us know at at least 24 hours before the workshop. If you register but fail to show up, you will be charged a 50 EUR fee.


Do I have to bring anything to the conference?

Good mood and lots of business cards :) You will be provided with a pen and notepad; we will have your name badge ready, too. There will be coffee and snacks!

What’s the TLC Supporter Package?

Apart from supporting TLC, you can also get some visibility as a TLC Supporter. Supporters get a TLC mug as well as a set of ads: one displayed in the Exhibition Room, one on our website and one post on our Facebook page.

I’m vegetarian/vegan/lactose-free/gluten-free. Will there be food options available for me?

Please let us know upon registration. We will make sure there are vegetarian/vegan/lactose-free/gluten-free options available.
