I am a literary translator and Translation Studies teacher. I completed my PhD thesis at Imperial College London on “The Translation of Idioms in Miguel Torga’s autobiography A Criação Do Mundo" in 2012, whereby I explored the challenges of translating idioms from English and Spanish into Portuguese. Ever since, I have been researching and teaching on the topics of translation and metaphor, cultural exchange, lexicography, idioms, bilingual poetry, and literary translation. I have worked as a legal and medical translator for "Doctors Without Borders", as well as a literary translator for 18 years, having translated 18 literary works, among poetry and fictional prose. More recently I have started teaching in the MA in Linguistics (Translation Studies) at the Centre for Linguistics at Leiden University, after having collaborated as a tutor in the MA in Translation Studies at Edinburgh University, Imperial College, and University College London. I have also extensively worked as an editor and lexicographer for a number of publishers in Portugal.
