The past is full of periods where currently repugnant beliefs ruled, where prevailing scientific beliefs have since been proven incorrect, and where acceptable social behavior has completely changed. How do writers create characters that readers can like, yet are also products of their time? How important is this to the readers? And how do you know where to draw the line?
