Michael Saler is Professor of History at the University of California, Davis. He is the author of As If: Modern Enchantment and the Literary Prehistory of Virtual Reality and The Avant-Garde in Interwar England; editor of The Fin-de-siècle World; and co-editor of The Re-Enchantment of the World. A lifelong fan, he proposed and institutionalized the “Best-Related Work” Hugo Awards category in 1980 (known then as the “Best Non-Fiction Book” category).
