Andrea Chapela (Mexico City, 1990) has a degree in chemistry from the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and an MFA in Spanish Creative Writing from the University of Iowa. The four books of her saga Vâudïz were published between 2009 and 2015 by the publishing house Urano. Some of the poems from her MFA thesis have been published and translated into English. She started translating while at the University of Iowa. In 2016, she was awarded a Jóvenes Creadores grant for a science fiction short story collection. Some of these stories have been published in Samovar, Tierra Adentro and Alucinadas IV, a Spanish anthology. She is an alumna of the Clarion West class of 2017. She lives in La Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, where she was given a grant to work on an essay collection. She continues to translate and write poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.
