Jim enjoys life in harsh climates. From summer heat approaching 50C on the reservations west of Albuquerque, and the high spring winds on the Llano Esticado (staked planes) of eastern NM. Thence to the Sub Arctic of Fairbanks, Alaska where the temperature reached 40C once in Summer and has reached -55C in winter.

December of 2011 started with a bang for Jim. An early evening head on collision closed the main highway between Fairbanks and Anchorage for a couple hours and had Jim using a wheel chair for the remainder of the winter. That began his education in dealing with myriad challenges such as wheelchairs get stuck on snow/ice very easily and the education of how different disabilities interact with life, and that signs claiming wheelchair accessibility does not always guarantee actual access. The unwanted education forced an awareness of disabilities in literature as well as real life. Main recovery took several years and ongoing disabilities are, gladly, reduced to hidden and relatively minor status.
