Bruce Mai’s first “costume” was a Dalek from Doctor Who, almost 40 years ago. His wife, Nora taught him to sew. He is the current president of the St. Louis Costumers Guild - a chapter of the International Costumers Guild.
They are both archivists for the ICG Pat and Peggy Kennedy Memorial Archives, collecting and preserving current and past photos and video of convention costuming. It is the largest repository for convention costuming material in the world. The International Costumers Gallery (www.icggallery.com) , has over 14,000 images and continues to grow. At conventions, Nora, Bruce and the other archivists present programs about the hobby’s history and culture as part of the ICG Archives Travelling Road Show. Some of that content is on the Archives YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/ICGArchives/feed). On top of all that, they maintain and provide content for 4 costuming-related Facebook pages – the St. Louis Costumers Guild, “Costume-Con Tips, Tricks and Trivia”, “The International Costumers Gallery” and “(Costume + Inspiration) = Art!”
Together, they enjoy observing new techniques and styles of costuming and encouraging new costumers to explore their creativity. In 2010, they received the ICG Lifetime Achievement Award for service to the costuming community, and they strive to continue being entertaining.
