This interdisciplinary symposium (e.g. human resources management, educational administration, data visualization, computer science) focuses on data-driven decision making (DDDM) by school administrators, from a perspective of educational success continuous improvement. In the literature, this decision-making is, for example, referred to as data driven decision making, data based decision making, data use and data informed decision making (e.g. Schildkamp, 2019; Young et al., 2018). .

The data used by school management to make decisions, in this case affecting school management, classes and student learning, are of different types (qualitative, quantitative, formal, informal) and of different natures (demographic , socioeconomic, perseverance, attendance, learning difficulties and others). This data aims to understand and interpret the performance of the student and their behavior, as well as that of a class, of a school, and to decide on intervention strategies (Mandinach, 2019). The purpose of the data is therefore to identify problems of various kinds (learning and behavior), explain them, make informed decisions and verify the impact of the decisions that have been made (Visscher, 2021).

This symposium aims to shed light on the notion of data-driven decision-making with regard to school management (e.g. history, definitions and conceptualization, state of knowledge) in order to target the knowledge and skills that these managements must master to appropriate this type of decision-making based on data rather than intuitions and beliefs.
