PDW OB & HR Surviving and Thriving in the First Few Years of a Tenure-Track Position
My Session Status
Navigating the early years of a tenure-track position presents unique challenges for junior faculty as they strive to establish themselves in academia. Balancing the demands of teaching, research, and service while developing an academic identity can feel overwhelming, especially in the competitive and evolving landscape of Canadian business schools and Industrial/Organizational Psychology departments. With the added complexity of institutional expectations and the realities of the academic job market, junior faculty often face barriers to achieving sustainable success in their roles.
This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) is tailored for junior faculty transitioning into tenure-track positions. The workshop aims to provide practical strategies and tools to help participants thrive in their early academic careers. Topics include understanding the diverse needs of academic institutions, aligning personal and institutional goals, developing effective teaching and research strategies, and preparing for tenure evaluations. Participants will also gain insights into managing competing priorities, building professional networks, and navigating institutional politics. Through interactive discussions, this PDW will empower junior faculty to move beyond survival mode, establish a strong foundation, and confidently advance in their academic careers.
