Peter Pomart was born at Winnipeg MB and is a second-generation residential school survivor. Having lived in five provinces during childhood and adolescence, he graduated from Brandon University in 2001. An avid photographer, cartoon artist, and social commentator, he had a 15 year career at the University of Manitoba, which he recently concluded to focus on his PhD thesis. During his time at the university, he specialized in Indigenous student services and attained his MBA in 2018 and started his PhD program in September of that year.
Pomart is interested in institutional theory, sustainability, and human rights and their intersectionality with Indigenous peoples' right to self-determination. "Indigenous peoples are rightsholders and not stakeholders," is a thematic refrain throughout his scholarly works.
