Youth vaping remains a pressing challenge in Canadian schools— impacting student health, learning conditions, staff workload, policy implementation, and overall school climate. As this issue grows in complexity, education professionals are often left navigating inconsistent guidance, limited resources, and rising expectations—frequently without the systemic support they need.

The Addressing Vaping in Schools – National Conference Series will bring together K–12 educators, school leaders, policy partners, and public health professionals to share what’s working on the ground. This national platform will explore how schools are responding, where additional supports are needed, and how cross-sector collaboration can lead to sustainable, equitable solutions.

We invite session proposals that showcase practical strategies, school-tested approaches, and evidence-informed initiatives that enhance school-based responses to youth vaping. Submissions must demonstrate clear application in real K–12 settings and include participation from education professionals or school-based partners. Proposals that are solely theoretical or research-based, without demonstrated relevance or collaboration with education stakeholders, will not be considered.

This national conference series explores youth vaping as a multi-dimensional systems issue—one that intersects with learning environments, staff development, student wellbeing, school policy, and cross-sector collaboration.

We invite proposals that highlight effective strategies to strengthen school-based prevention efforts, deepen student and staff learning, and support cessation. Our focus is on prevention and capacity-building, with an emphasis on positive, school-embedded approaches.

We welcome proposals that reflect:

Effective vaping prevention, reduction or cessation strategies rooted in school communities
Resources, programs, or interventions co-developed with educators, students, families, or health partners
Professional development or curriculum tools that support educators in addressing vaping in their practice
School-wide or district-level efforts to foster healthy environments and student connection
Culturally responsive approaches that support equity and inclusion
Insights from implementation, evaluation, or systems change efforts

Proposals must demonstrate relevance and effectiveness in K–12 school contexts. Submissions that do not include education partners will not be considered.

Priority Themes

Proposals should align with one or more of the following areas:

Innovative school-based vaping prevention, reduction or cessation initiatives
Lessons from system-wide or policy-level responses
Classroom or educator training tools that support student engagement
Co-created approaches involving youth, families, or community partners
District-level coordination and cross-sector collaboration
Supports tailored for Indigenous, newcomer, or equity-deserving student populations
Understanding and addressing the differentiated impact of initiatives across diverse student populations within a school or school district

Presentation Format

Sessions are 60 minutes in length

Formats may include:

Interactive workshops
Panel discussions
Case studies or storytelling
Practice-based presentations

Presenters are encouraged to include 10–15 minutes of audience Q&A or incorporate interactive elements throughout the session.

Audio-visual support is available; however, presenters must bring their own laptop or device.

Selection Criteria

All proposals will be reviewed and scored based on the following:

Exploration of differentiated impacts on student populations, with particular attention to priority populations and cultural responsiveness
Provision of practical insights that enable other practitioners to adopt or adapt the approach in their own K–12 settings
Clear alignment with the conference priorities and themes
Evidence of efforts to sustain the work amid changing conditions within schools or school systems
Presentation of innovative and effective solutions

Le vapotage chez les jeunes demeure un enjeu pressant dans les écoles canadiennes — il a un impact sur la santé des élèves, les conditions d’apprentissage, la charge de travail du personnel, la mise en œuvre des politiques et le climat scolaire global. Alors que la situation se complexifie, les professionnel·le·s de l’éducation doivent souvent composer avec des directives incohérentes, des ressources limitées et des attentes croissantes — souvent sans le soutien systémique requis.La série nationale Faisons face au vapotage dans les écoles réunira des enseignant·e·s de la maternelle à la 12e année, des directions scolaires, des partenaires en politiques publiques et des professionnel·le·s de la santé pour partager les approches efficaces mises en œuvre sur le terrain. Cette plateforme nationale permettra d’explorer comment les écoles réagissent, quels soutiens sont nécessaires et comment la collaboration intersectorielle peut mener à des solutions durables et équitables.Nous invitons des propositions d’ateliers qui présentent des stratégies pratiques, des approches éprouvées en milieu scolaire et des initiatives fondées sur des données probantes pour renforcer les réponses scolaires face au vapotage chez les jeunes. Les propositions doivent démontrer une application concrète dans des contextes réels de la maternelle à la 12e année et inclure la participation de professionnel·le·s de l’éducation ou de partenaires scolaires. Les propositions purement théoriques ou axées uniquement sur la recherche, sans collaboration ni pertinence démontrée pour le milieu scolaire, ne seront pas retenues.
