On July 30, 2015, Israel witnessed shocking sights at the Gay Pride March in Jerusalem as an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man viciously attacked six people attending the event. However, throughout Tel Aviv there are rainbow-colored flags flying daily, recognizing the rich and plentiful freedom for gay residents and visitors to the city.

Is Israeli society tolerant towards homosexuality or is such openness just reserved for the sheltered metropolis of Tel Aviv? How did Tel Aviv become an international Mecca for LGBTQ residents and tourism? Can Jerusalem, the “City of Peace,” follow suit?

We will meet with members of the Open House in Jerusalem, as well as inspiring representatives of LGBTQ organizations in Tel Aviv.

We will visit the Tel Aviv Gay Center, travel to spots in the city to see a shelter for gay youth, and speak with prominent advocates for LGBTQ family rights.
