C. Sean Closkey, President - Mr. Closkey is the founding President of ReBUILD Metro (RBM), a non-profit housing developer. Founded in 2006, RBM has developed over 800 units of housing and is actively developing 250 additional housing units. RBM signature work is in East Baltimore, where it has invested over $114 million, creating 300 single family homes, building 190 new apartments, and demolishing and/or consolidating 180 vacant properties. RBM has completed this work in the Oliver/EBDI and Greenmount West neighborhoods without displacement or relocation of existing families. In addition to the benefits from RBM’s development, this strategy creates the conducive market conditions that incentivize the private sector to invest in and redevelop in these communities. Following the RBM process, neighborhood housing values are now four times greater, 86% of the vacant properties have been removed, and private investment has increased 650%. These results demonstrate that RBM redevelopment process can renew Baltimore’s legacy neighborhoods and create a sustainable future for all families. Prior to starting RBM, Mr. Closkey served as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency. His accomplishments include creating and implementing New Jersey’s $2.5 billion Smart Growth Housing Policy. Prior to leading the NJHMFA, Mr. Closkey was Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Carpenters Society, the largest single-family housing developer in Camden, NJ. He holds a BS in finance from Villanova University and a MA in economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
