America's Jewish Women: A New History

Two threads run through the entire story of America's Jewish women: a strong sense of self and a resolute commitment to making the world a better place. This session will focus on how America's Jewish women—both the well-known scores of activists and the less familiar workers, wives, and mothers—left deep footprints in the history of the nation they call home. This session will explore how Jewish women have simultaneously advanced American's founding values and Jewish identity with Professor Pam Nadell, the Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women's and Gender History at American University and author of a brand new pioneer study: America's Jewish Women: A History from Colonial Times to Today (2019). To facilitate future study programs, a special Study Guide for Dr. Nadell's book will be given to all attendees.
