Rabbi Elsie Stern is Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Bible at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Her publications include: From Rebuke to Consolation: Exegesis and Theological in the Liturgical Anthology of the Ninth of Av Season (2004) and contributions to The Jewish Study Bible and The Torah: A Women’s Commentary (2008). Most recently, she co-edited The Dictionary of the Bible in Ancient Media (2017) and has an essay in the forthcoming volume Inscribed: Encounters with the Ten Commandments from the CCAR Press. Dr’ Stern’s research and teaching focus on the Jewish public Bible---how Jews in late antiquity and the present receive and experience torah. She is particularly interested in the interplay of oral performance and written text in synagogue and other settings.
