The role of intention is hotly contested in our contemporary political realm. It was debated by our Sages, as well. Does a deed require good intention to be deemed good? If my intention were good, am I morally culpable for a bad outcome to my behavior? Does a deed require wicked intention to be deemed wicked? If my intention were bad, am I innocent if I cannot carry it out? Can I fulfill a mitzvah without intent to? Come tiptoe through the rabbinic minefield of intention in the realm of good and evil.
