Rick Wolcott

Carving Instructor
Calgary Board of Education
Participates in 1 Session

Rick Wolcott is a Salish carver who has been practicing since he was five years of age. After carving a man in a canoe with a found pocket knife, his grandfather taught him traditional tool making and how to represent Coast Salish stories in wood form. Rick has been passing on his love and knowledge of the craft since 1980. He can be seen teaching West Coast Indigenous artmaking at “Carving on the Edge” (Tofino, BC), Firemaker (Courtenay, BC), Kin Beach (Comox, BC), with the Junior Forest Rangers (AB), in several CBE and CSSD schools, and within his very own NW Calgary garage. He is thrilled to be part of this year’s Calgary City Teachers' Convention 2025 in person, again.
