Using the Principles of Effective Instruction by Barak Rosenshine, Rebecca will share how she structures her grade 1 math lessons. She will share how she begins her lessons with math songs and her free 40 weeks of math warm ups and number talks. Then, she will talk about guided practice, checking for understanding, hands- on math tasks and scaffolding steps to differentiate and extend the learning. Rebecca often uses the JUMP math teacher’s guide and the JUMP math scope and sequence but a math journal instead of the JUMP assessment and practice books. The result of these techniques is a class of students who master math concepts.
