Eryn taught grade 1 and 3 in Calgary, Alberta before beginning Sounds Apart Literacy Education, a private tutoring company for children with language-based learning disabilities. Initially driven by the need to support her own child, as well as the children in her classrooms, Eryn’s work is tethered to her training as a certified Orton-Gillingham (OG) classroom educator. Over the past five years, Sounds Apart has had the opportunity to support over 200 families through personalized one-to-one and small group tutoring. Every child who enters the doors of Sounds Apart is embraced with patience, understanding, and compassion, and their learning is steeped in multimodal teaching practices that align with their individual learning needs. Since 2022, Eryn has had the privilege of working with Jodi Nickel to both train and hire over 30 MRU teacher candidates to work for Sounds Apart. Eryn also spends time working shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers across the city, helping them integrate structured literacy in their classrooms and small remediation groups.
