Eco Dyeing Silk Scarves with Flowers and Plants from Calgary Gardens

Textile artist, Susan Crawford, will demonstrate how to dye silk scarves and wool with roses, marigolds, hollyhocks, purple pincushion flowers, cochineal, oaks, sumac, madder root, logwood bark, and eucalyptus leaves. Workshop participants will eco dye their own silk scarf to take home and will also take home a wool coaster eco dyed with eucalyptus leaves. Participants will be shown a variety of samples of scarves, as well as a variety of eco dyed paper samples that are easy and cost-effective for students of all ages to make. Watercolor paper eco dyed with rusted soup cans will also be demonstrated. Susan will also have a slide show detailing the dyeing procedures for the workshop, as well as textile art from various eco dyers from around the world that she has studied with.

No attendee parking at Western Canada High School. Parking reserved for presenters by permit only.
