Hand tools are a low-cost, safe, and engaging entry point into the world of woodworking! This session aims to equip you with the skills and confidence to engage your students and introduce them to woodworking. Participants will have the opportunity to use hand tools to lay out, construct, and finish a simple phone stand, which can then serve as a project in their classrooms. The safe use of handsaws, knives, chisels, files, and rasps will be demonstrated throughout the session.
Additional topics discussed will include:
• Appropriate species selection
• Understanding wood grain direction
• Estimating, ordering, and purchasing materials
• Proper tool care and maintenance
