Our mission at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is to take and inspire action to sustain wildlife and wild places. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo offers a number of exceptional educational programs that act as the perfect place to bring curriculum to life! Visit our exhibitor booth to learn how you can have your students participate in our fun, authentic, and engaging educational programs and conservation festivals!

We offer a large selection of on-site programs for elementary and secondary students that are curriculum-based, authentic, and interdisciplinary-focused. We also have an exciting new option for educational programs where a conservation educator will come to your school to offer a program from a select menu. Our virtual programs include Virtual Safaris led by our conservation educators with a number of themes that you can choose from.

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is a proud partner of Chevron Campus Calgary/Open Minds and hosts the innovative, inquiry-based Zoo School program. Classes who participate in Zoo School engage in interdisciplinary, inquiry-based learning opportunities throughout the year and then have the opportunity to come together for a week-long curriculum-based experience at the zoo. Conservation Champions Logo

The Conservation Champions Festival is a hybrid program that provides educators with access to a virtual classroom on Canvas complete with conservation resources, videos from experts, and optional lesson plans or activities that they can do with their students to enhance their understanding of the natural world and conservation literacy. Access to the virtual classroom is available from September to May. Throughout the year, students engage in inquiry-based learning and complete a conservation action project that they will then showcase to the public at the Conservation Champions Festival from May 6-8, 2025. The 2024/2025 Conservation Champions Festival is currently full, however you can contact ConservationChampions@calgaryzoo.com to be added to the list for the 2025/2026 Conservation Champions Festival program commencing in September 2025. Learn more: Conservation Champions Festival.

Alberta Biodiversity Festival Logo

From the beautiful grasslands to the iconic boreal forest, Alberta’s natural landscapes are diverse and captivating. The goal of this festival is to empower people with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration needed to think, plan, and take action while keeping Alberta’s fish, water, wildlife, and ecosystems at the forefront of their minds. This collaborative endeavor is made possible through the partnership between the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and the Government of Alberta, including their Bow Habitat Station in Inglewood. Join us each year in September to celebrate the rich biodiversity in our province and what can be done for these diverse ecosystems. Learn more here: Alberta Biodiversity Festival.
