Formerly, the Director of Bands at the Didsbury High School, Mr. Wassmer instructs courses in Concert Band, Jazz Band and Guitar. He came to Didsbury after teaching at G. P. Vanier Secondary School in Courtenay, BC and Revelstoke Secondary School. He is very proud to say that groups under his direction consistently receive high accolades at provincial, national and international festivals.
In the fall of 2019, Mr. Wassmer was honoured to receive the Elkhorn Award by the Alberta Band Association as Band Director of the Year.
In May of 2024, Mr. Wassmer received the Roy E. Cope Award for 2024 from Chinook's Edge School Division. This award is presented for his significant contribution to student success.
Following a Gold performance at MusicFest in Toronto, Mr. Wassmer was named this year's recipient of the I. Keith Mann/NAC Orchestra Outstanding Band Director Award.
Mr. Wassmer devoted 34 years as a music educator to helping students, and in June of 2024, he hung up his baton at Didsbury High School.
