Alix Esterhuizen (she/her) holds a Master of Arts in Political Studies from Queen's University, with research focusing on morally polarizing issues. In addition to teaching high school social studies and English in the largest public school district in Western Canada, she is an education policy researcher at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, specializing in discrimination against gender and sexually diverse students. She currently serves as a consultant for CIVIX, most recently speaking at the Canada Centre 2024 Conference on Countering Radicalization to Violence in Montréal, hosted by Public Safety Canada. This summer, she was a member of the Contextual Fibre Arts Residency at the Alberta University of the Arts. Her fibre arts practice is rooted in the belief that textile arts transcend their historical reduction to “women’s work”, and her creative philosophy celebrates these arts as a dynamic form of materials engineering and design.
