Shirley has over 25 years working with preschool children at the Aboriginal Head Start Program in Fort Chipewyan and Calgary. As a Counsellor Assistant at Fort McKay School, Shirley supported high school students, while working with grades one to nine. Shirley hosted a Peer Support Program for the youth, and brought the Northwind Dancer Troupe to many different communities in central Alberta to perform. Shirley received the Dreamcatcher Scholarship Award (Grant MacEwan Community College) for being a positive role model. Shirley is also a wellness advocate for our four-legged friends.
Bach Tots Performing Arts specializes in arts for the earliest years (0-6). Bach Tots’ work has been performed locally with the Calgary International Children’s Festival, the YMCA, and have hosted workshops for pre-school and kindergarten students at Edelweiss Preparatory and Renfrew Educational Services (to name a few). Bach Tots has also performed nationally and internationally – as far reaching as Bahrain, Manama. Bach Tots Academy is a curated online hub, resource centre and community designed to help educators and anyone who cares for young children with easy-to-implement foundational practice of simple creative movement and dance principles. Bach Tots is led by Jenny Peters who most recently led the Education department at Arts Commons and has worked with Elder Shirley for over four years. www.bachtots.org
