“What are the other students doing while I’m working with a small group during my literacy block?” Learn how to design independent literacy centres based on current reading research. Students engage in worthwhile work through spaced practice of the Language Arts curriculum. The presenters will share ideas on planning, managing, and differentiating literacy centres and how to most effectively use your time with each small group to meet the needs of all students. In this session, Sandi Gualtieri, a learning leader completing her masters in Leadership for Learning and ELL teacher, and Sherri Sherren, a grade one teacher and former literacy strategist, will take you through their ‘research into practice’ process with grade 1 students which focuses on designing and implementing independent literacy centres that are easy to update weekly. This session is meant for Grade 1 and 2 teachers.
