Participants will need to bring a pair of scissors, felt pens, and plain copy paper to this workshop.
I will be briefly showing some basic card and dice games, and embedded math concepts, but
along the way participants will learn how to make math journals, strategy books, build visual math
dictionaries and more. I have been sharing student work samples forever and in this workshop I
will share some of my favorite ways to collect and capture this work. Teaching young students to
document their learning as they play is a powerful strategy for developing deeper understanding of
the math concepts being taught during game play. Math journals are great for collecting work
samples for assessment, for home connections and math buddy programs. If you teach upper
elementary you would also benefit from this workshop. Come prepared to play, doodle and create
some great samples to bring back and integrate into your math program.
