Have you ever worked with youth who may have made a bad decision and committed a criminal offense? Have you ever wondered what kinds of things youth can be charged for, and that for some offences young people might be referred to a Youth Justice Committee in their community? Or do you teach youth about the Youth Criminal Justice Act and want to help them understand more about restorative justice and diversion options? If so, this session is for you.

This session will provide participants with knowledge about the Youth Criminal Justice Act as well as Youth Justice Committees. The session breaks down the process when a youth commits a crime or comes into contact with the law, what the possibilities are if they get referred to the Youth Justice Committee Program and how they can turn a bad decision into a strength-based opportunity. You will walk away from the session feeling confident in the knowledge gained regarding the Youth Criminal Justice Act and Youth Justice Committees and what it can mean for the youth we support. For over 25 years Calgary Youth Justice Society has been providing a community-based and volunteer driven alternative to court that holds youth accountable without holding them back.
