Join the Nature Education Collective (NEC) for an empowering full-day workshop on integrating nature-based education into your teaching practice. Multiple research studies have shown that quality nature-based education positively impacts literacy, numeracy, social-emotional well-being, the development of critical competencies and student achievement across all disciplines. Outdoor and indoor activities for elementary and high school teachers will be offered by the five founding national environmental organizations of the NEC (Canadian Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Earth Rangers, Project Learning Tree Canada and Outward Bound Canada). Teachers will leave with a suite of curriculum-linked resources on topics like climate, eco-anxiety, biodiversity and social-emotional learning.

Know Before You Go Getting there.

The Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area (ASCCA) is a 4,800 acre day use natural area and nocturnal preserve. It is located just southwest of the city of Calgary at 20-194001 160 Street West, Foothills AB T1S 4K9. Parking. There are 2 parking lots free of charge.

Venue details.

The ASCCA has a heated indoor space with washrooms, water, a small kitchen with a microwave and mini fridge, and internet access. We’ll have access to the indoor and outdoor spaces for the day.

Dress appropriately.

Some activities, like a guided nature walk, will be held outside. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear.

Bring your lunch.

We will provide refreshments (coffee, tea, water) and light snacks. Keep your waste at a minimum. The ASCCA is asking all visitors to help generate less waste by bringing reusable mugs and containers and refraining from using Styrofoam. Please bring your waste with you at the end of the day.
