Dr. Michael Kehler
He/him
Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Michael taught high school English in Northern Ontario, Southwestern Ontario and South America before pursuing his PhD. His research addresses: masculinities, men/boys as advocates-allies for change, mental health, GBV, #MeToo, body image, Health and Physical Education, sport and homophobia. He is currently collaborating internationally in the United Kingdom. Of the two studies in the UK, one examines how and when some male athletes become advocates for social change, namely athlete activism whilst speaking out against homophobia in sport. The second UK study examines how pre-service teachers engage with diverse masculinities while practice teaching in both Canada and the UK. A 2024 funded SSHRC study will examine male-identifying teacher's impact through transformative pedagogies while addressing masculinities in schools across Canada. He is working with Movember, PHE Canada, Jumpstart-Canadian Tire and Hockey Canada to address diverse masculinities in sport, health and education.
