During the Holocaust, Jewish resistance took diverse forms including armed uprisings in ghettos and death camps as well as escape and smuggling of Jews from towns and ghettos to the forests for partisan warfare. Jewish youth movements often led much of the physical resistance against the Nazis. There are also many examples of spiritual resistance during the Holocaust. The creation of schools in the ghettos, composing music, preparing musical activities, painting, keeping diaries, and maintaining religious customs, helped Jewish people grapple with the physical terror they were living with on a daily basis and maintain their humanity under inhumane conditions. Learn from Holocaust educators Marnie Bondar and Dahlia Libin on integrating these lessons of courage and resistance into your classroom. Seminar includes hearing examples of physical and spiritual resistance taken by Calgary connected Holocaust survivors.
