Kaitlin Khubyar, born in Thunder Bay, Treaty Territory of the Fort William First Nation, began advocating against racism at 12 after experiencing racial violence. She joined the Multicultural Association and was chosen as a youth representative for Northern Ontario by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson. At 18, she founded Break Down Barriers, a program connecting racialized, formerly incarcerated youth with community through hip hop. Now a Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Specialist for the Calgary Board of Education, she focuses on anti-racism and abolitionist education. As co-founder of Inclusive Canada, Kaitlin helped co-author the Black North American Cultural Studies curriculum and has mediated hate-motivated interventions across Canada. Her work, grounded in restorative justice, extends to community-building, curriculum development, and supporting marginalized groups. She dedicates her work to the memory of her grandmothers and the future of her nieces.
