Vanessa Munroe is a Calgary-based art/o/grapher whose love for Indigenous art and design led to her meeting Rick Wolcott over a decade ago. Since her initial visit to his Museum of Civilizations-like garage, Vanessa’s love for carving has blossomed and greatly influenced her research, pedagogy and own art-making practice. In an attempt to share her knowledge and passion with others, she is motivated to present and engage with colleagues about the transformational potential of bringing Indigenous ways of knowing into learning spaces in authentic, respectful ways. She looks forward to the opportunity to meet with you again in person at this year’s Calgary City Teachers' Convention 2025 and to nurture your curiosity in this rewarding craft.
