Tannis Scott
Tannis has been a teacher in Calgary for thirteen years. While teaching in a specialized literacy program at the junior high level, Tannis became passionate about incorporating evidence-based literacy practices with her students, particularly those with neurodiversity. While independently researching, Tannis found it difficult to find resources tailored to the junior high learner. The desire to best support her students led Tannis to enroll in the University of Alberta's Masters of Special Education, which focuses on the Science of Reading. It is during this program that Tannis met her co-presenter Marnee. Together, Tannis and Marnee spent two years focusing on how literacy support can be enhanced at the division 3 level, creating a three-hour PD session focused on providing decoding and encoding support to the middle-year learner.
