In this session, participants will reflect upon current best practices in Holocaust education – including the importance of using first-hand accounts, incorporating trauma-informed pedagogical strategies and selecting appropriate content and methodologies for the contemporary Canadian classroom. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to teach the Holocaust with a meaningful, appropriate and sensitive approach, in addition to a plethora of free resources that are ready to use. The Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program collects, preserves and shares the first-hand accounts of survivors who came to Canada after the war. All of our memoirs, educational materials and professional development sessions are completely free for students and educators across Canada and are available in English and French.
